If my 1979 Cj7 worth restoring?
I have a 1980 CJ7 Laredo thats been in my barn since 2008. it was running and driving in 2005 but was a the victim of a tree that came down on it in a hurricane which took out the the hood radiator and front grill and right fender and tire but no engine or frame damage .
I have been deciding on selling it as-is but recently put a new radiator in it and it started right up and engine ran fine.
What was good before it went to sleep:
-straight 6 rebuilt bored out, paired headers runs good. 30K since rebuild
- Polyethylene Fuel Tank
- rebuilt 4 spd tranny
- ss brake lines
- it has no power steering, brakes or AC ( simple fun jeep)
Basic problem is I am trying to determine how serious a body/frame rust is.
Besides normal cosmetic windshield frame -- floor pans ,rocker and quarter panels are pretty rusted out or gone .
The body to frame attaching bolts are pretty rusted and mounting areas and bushings look questionable. Looks like most structural frame rust is around these attaching points. How do I determine if the frame is good as-is? Whats my next steps ?
I was hoping to do a restore using as much as I have without a re-body.
My budget calls for first making it safe -- then getting it back to the fun casual street/trail driver like it used to be. -- No show truck --
