Cool Jeep Tow Hook vs Tow Hitch

Re: 2014 Wrangler. I have noticed on several occasions, the tow hitch instructions mention that the tow hook must be removed prior to installing a hitch . As the hook is located all the way to the left side of the frame, what is the purpose for removal? My first Jeep, as is evident from my question I suppose.

Thanks for any help

They remove them (Recover/Tow Hooks) from all of the jeeps. But on another forum, I saw where a member had his rear recovery tow hook still on the Jeep. When the install the tow hitch receiver they usually remove the recovery tow hook when all it needs is a longer bolt. I am dealing with Chrysler/Jeep Wave customer service about getting my Recover Tow Hooks installed on my Jeep Grand Cherokee WK2.
